The vrat is observed on Krishna Paksha Dashami of Chaitra month according to the Hindu calendar. Many devotees also start preparations after Holi and perform rituals for several days before the main puja.
Dasha Mata Ki Kahani (Story of Dasha Mata)
According to traditional belief, once there was a king and queen who lived a happy and prosperous life. Their kingdom was full of wealth, happiness, and peace.
One day, the queen went to the forest where she saw a group of women worshipping a sacred tree and tying a special thread around it. Curious to know about the ritual, the queen asked them about it.
The women told her that they were observing the Dasha Mata Vrat. They explained that worshipping Dasha Mata and tying the sacred thread helps remove bad destiny and protects the family from troubles.
The queen was impressed and decided to observe the vrat herself. She performed the rituals with devotion for several days, and soon the prosperity of the kingdom increased even more.
However, after some time someone told the queen that the thread was useless. Without thinking, she removed the sacred Dasha Mata thread and threw it away.
Soon after that, the king lost his kingdom, wealth disappeared, and the royal family started facing many difficulties. They had to leave their palace and wander in forests.
After suffering for a long time, the queen realized her mistake. She prayed to Dasha Mata and started observing the vrat again with full faith and devotion.
Pleased with her sincerity, Dasha Mata blessed the royal family, their fortune improved, and the king eventually regained his kingdom and happiness returned to their life.
